When I was about eleven, I would ride from my family’s house on a dusty country road several miles into town to buy a candy bar at Suzie’s Market. A Big Hunk. After that I would play some hoops in a friend’s driveway or walk along the railroad tracks and hide in the trees when the train came. I liked the fact that the train didn’t know I was there, watching it go by. I couldn’t believe how such a large machine could move so smoothly.
